By the beginning of class, read selection of Grant-Davie's "Rhetorical Situations and Their Constituents."
By the beginning of class, read Tim McGee and Patrician Ericsson’s “The Politicsof the Program: MS Word as the Invisible Grammarian.”
In-class, answer the following questions over McGee and Ericsson's piece in 300 total words on your blog:
·         Who is their audience?
·         What is their purpose?
·         What is their exigence?
·         How has MSGC helped or hindered your writing?
·         How have you manipulated MSGC to work for you?
·         Should teachers require MSGC for all writing at the elementary level?

Class and group work on rhetoric / rhetorical situation
In McGee and Ericsson, find 5 sentences, phrases, sections that stick out to you in the reading. Make a note in the margin reminding yourself why? Try to connect these sentences, phrases, sections to stuff you already know, things the writing makes you think of.

Read Shepherd for Tuesday. Skip all of section 1.

By the beginning of class, read Ryan Shepherd’s “FB in FYC: Facebook Use AmongFirst-Year Composition Students.” Skip all of section 1.

By the beginning of class, BEFORE reading write 150 word blog response to:
·         Do you see a connection between writing for FB and writing for school? Why
·         How might FB play a role in academic learning?

In class, AFTER read. Write 150 word blog response to:
·         Based on Shepherd’s survey, do students see a connection between FB and FYC? How do you explain this result?
·         What was his purpose?
·         What makes his argument kairotic?

In class, write a script in which you imaging a dialogue between Shepherd, McGee and Ericsson, and Selfe. What will be the central topic of their conversation? What will be some specific points of conversation? Where might this talk take place? Post this script to your blog.

·         Why should teachers and students of writing consider sexuality in a networked classroom?
·         Alexander does not provide an in-depth study like Shepherd does. How could his piece have benefited from a structure like Shepherd’s?
·         How is his argument kairotic?
·         What is his exigence?
·         How might his identity shape his argument?
